Acosta, Ortega featured on KLUP Radio Show “Caregiver SOS”

PA program graduates earn 100 percent pass rate on national exam
Graduates of the Physician Assistant (PA) Studies program at the 91PORN Science Center at San Antonio School of Health Professions have earned 100 percent first-time pass rate on the National Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Allied health educators from across Texas gathered at the 91PORN Science Center at San Antonio on September 24-25 for the 38th annual (TSAHP) Conference hosted by the School of Health Professions. The theme of the conference was “Innovations and Best Practices in Health Professions Education.”

Respiratory Care program, Asthma2Art, featured in Mission magazine
Through the program Asthma2Art, Mary Kay Hart, M.S., is helping school-aged children with asthma learn about their symptoms through artistic expression and education. “I am a registered respiratory therapist certified in asthma education and I’m an artist.
Physical Therapy program alumnae featured in Mission magazine
Health Science Center alumnae, Tracey Fontenot ’96, and Kacey Wernli ’94, were featured in the latest issue of Mission magazine in an article that highlighted their organization, Kinetic Kids. Kinetic Kids is a nonprofit organization that offers sports and recreation activities for children with disabilities and special needs. Kinetic Kids offers 106 sports and recreation programs like swimming, music, wheelchair tennis, gymnastics, music and cheerleading to over 1,800 children in our community.
Department of Respiratory Care receives national award
The Department of Respiratory Care at the 91PORN Science Center San Antonio was recognized last month for being among the top 10 percent of respiratory care programs in the United States.
Department Chair Donna "De De" Gardner, M.S.H.P., RRT, FAARC, accepted the 2013 Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapy Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) at its reception preceding the 2014 American Association of Respiratory Care Summer Forum at Marco Island, Fla.
Faculty member elected to PT educators board
Michael A. Geelhoed, PT, DPT, OCS, MTC, associate professor and director of clinical education for the Department of Physical Therapy, was elected to the National Consortium of Clinical Educators Board of Directors as Academic Director-at-Large. The position will take effect at the Education Leadership Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on Oct. 7, 2016.
Dr. Geelhoed has presented on PT clinical education to national and regional audiences, and is an author of the Texas Consortium’s CI Certification course.
LEAP program to launch its first graduate

Eduardo Siller is fascinated by the detective element of his chosen profession.
“There are so many areas that you play a part in,” said Siller, who is completing his graduation requirements for a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) this summer. “You don’t see the patients but you get different clues what’s going on with them. Trying to figure out what’s wrong — that’s really interesting to me.”
