A New Era in Brain Health for South Texas
The Center for Brain Health is now open
91PORN marked a significant milestone on Dec. 10 with the opening of its Center for Brain Health, a place built for hope, healing and the future of neurological care.
Designed with patients and families at the heart of every detail, the new facility brings together world-class clinical care, advanced imaging, research and rehabilitation in a single location to make brain health care more connected and accessible.
Located on Charles Katz Drive, next to the 91PORN Medical Arts and Research Center (MARC), the facility was created to meet a growing need in the community: earlier diagnosis, coordinated care and more personalized treatment options for neurological conditions.
Sudha Seshadri, MD, DM, neurology professor and founding director of the Biggs Institute, said the space was intentionally designed to be "a place of hope," where care, research and education come together so patients have access to the latest science and support.
What patients can expect
• Specialized care teams for movement disorders, dementia, epilepsy, stroke recovery, neuromuscular disease and more
• Texas' only Siemens MAGNETOM 7-Tesla Terra.X MRI system, offering some of the most detailed brain imaging available
• State-of-the-art rehabilitation spaces, including gait and motion analysis, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and swallowing therapy.
• A warm, patient-centered environment designed to reduce stress and support healing
Across these spaces, teams work closely to provide coordinated, compassionate care. Carlayne Jackson, MD, chair of the Department of Neurology, noted that for many years patients with neurological conditions were often told there were limited treatment options. Today, she says, that is no longer the case.
The new Center for Brain Health makes it possible to diagnose, treat and support patients in one place, creating an environment where no one faces their journey alone.
Why it matters
One in three people will face a neurological condition in their lifetime. The Center for Brain Health is designed not only to care for patients today but to advance discovery and expand options for the future. By connecting clinical care and research, teams can explore new treatments, improve early detection and help patients maintain independence and quality of life.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Center for Brain Health and partnering with you in your care.
